Prabhakar Kolte was born at Nerur Par in Maharashtra. He completed his diploma in painting from the Sir J. J. School of Art in 1968. He spent twenty-two years teaching at his alma mater and retired in 1994. Some of his solo exhibitions are, Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2002, 1997, Muller and Plate, Munich, 2001, Admit One Gallery, New York, 1998, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, 1997, Gallery Chemould, Mumbai, 1993, 90, 87 and 83. Kolte now devotes his time to painting and lives in Mumbai.
