The practice of age old art forms preserves our rich culture and heritage. The ancient classical dance of Bharatanatyam remains one of the most magnificent, complex and intricate forms indigenous to the Southern state of Tamil Nadu. Geetha Sridhar is a professional dancer, performer, tutor and choreographer with a career spanning over 30 years. For Guru Geetha Sridhar, Bharatanatyam is not simply a passion, but a calling. As an established Bharatanatyam dancer with rigorous training rooted in Kalakshetra Institute of Fine Arts (Chennai), Geetha has devoted her career in the UK to nurturing and preserving the form beyond its home borders.

She continues to successfully pass on the authentic, traditional style to a range of ages and groups in both higher education and community settings. Natya Lahari is an exciting culmination of the training of the Nehru Centre’s very own students. Since the establishment of the Bharatanatyam Faculty in 2023, these students have developed and honed their skills under Geetha’s tutelage. This exciting performance will showcase traditional repertoire items performed by the students, alongside their Guru Geetha Sridhar. This production will also feature an appearance by Geetha’s daughter, Sandhya Sridhar, performing in the style of Odissi.
