Exhibition
This exhibition is a collaboration between LIGCA, the Nirmal Bhartia School (New Delhi), The Village School (Belsize Park, London) and UCL Academy, (Swiss Cottage, London) and is being shown in New Delhi at the Sanskriti Kendra cultural foundation and here in London.
Through art, children of two very different cultures speak out on the dire threat of air pollution. LIGCA provided all schools with a comprehensive list of selected educational resources and art lesson plans to be used by teachers and students as reference. Class discussions and personal reflections were strongly encouraged before the art element was introduced.
In London, under the creative leadership of environmental artist Francesca Busca and art teacher Susie Craven, the students of both schools investigated across the curriculum the causes and effects of air pollution both internationally and locally. This knowledge empowered them to produce art of great impact and importance. Many of the students asked if their pictures could actually change the way adults perceive the problems air pollution poses in terms of its impact on their generation and the environmental health of the planet.
It is LIGCA’s hope that this exhibition will help give young people the voice they deserve. It is their future we hold in our hands.
