Papia Das Baul is a fine artist, poet and Baul singer based simultaneously in Europe and India. Being a unique and versatile personality she is a brand name in poetry and painting with her signature name Papia Ghoshal. Many of her paintings and poems carry the strong influence of the Baul philosophy. After having spent more than twenty years of her life with the bauls and the fakirs of rural Bengal she acquired her spiritual and musical name Papia Das Baul.
Papia formed her modest music clan and started her baul life amidst the holy keltic soil in the Bohemian part of south Prague since 2008, where she has her Akhara. Besides traditional Baul songs, Papia also is a unique performer of the rare genre of rural Jhumur songs from the tribal areas of Bengal. Her raw and rural voice gives the traditional songs a very individual feel. Being a poet and a lyricist, she also composes her own songs, based on the traditions, practices and the philosophy of the Bauls. Papia Das Baul has performed in various festivals and important stages in Europe and in India like Folklorum Fest in Germany , Women in Music & Art Festival London, World Yoga Day Festival in Prague at the Indian embassy , and Ayurveda Festival Prague 2018 to name a few.
Papia regularly lectures about Indian heritage traditional music of the bauls & fakirs to the museums and universities in Europe & India. She also lectures about authentic Indian tribal & folk art. Papia has done her master’s degree in Indian music.
She has appeared in various television and radio shows in London, Czech Republic and India.
Papia Ghoshal is the international editor of a British heritage magazine first founded in the UK in 1825, called The London Miscellany. She is the author of eight poetry books and the only Indian to have won prestigious awards in the EU, like 'Medal of Franz Kafka' Award', 'European Union of Fine Arts Award', 'World Prize of Salvador Dali'. She has received the ‘Mother Teresa International Award’ in India along with many other national awards.
