Amritha, a graduate of Durham University and Imperial College London, transitioned from an 8-year career as a management consultant in London to follow her passion for dance. She studies Bharatanatyam with Vidhya Subramanian in Chennai and Kuchipudi with Anupama Mohan in Kochi, while also receiving mentorship from Mavin Khoo and Seeta Patel. Since 2019, Amritha has immersed herself in the world of dance, performing as both a soloist and ensemble artist. She has contributed to Arts Council England-commissioned productions, including the acclaimed ‘The Forest Dream,’ directed by Payal Ramchandani.
In 2023, Amritha embarked on a solo performance tour in India, showcasing her work for the Margazhi season in cities such as Chennai, Trivandrum, Kochi, and Palakkad. Notably, she premiered her Bharatanatyam solo production, ‘Madhavi,’ inspired by the Malayalam poem ‘Swayamvaram’ by her grandfather, Padma Vibhushan ONV Kurup, at the Soorya Festival in January 2024. Additionally, she performed a Margam at Narada Gana Sabha in February 2024, selected for their monthly artist showcase by ‘Natyarangam.’
Amritha began teaching Bharatanatyam in Central London, focusing on developing young dancers' performance techniques. She also consults on high-impact projects, including a recent role as Lead Consultant for Seeta Patel Dance, where she designed a mentorship program for emerging UK choreographers in Bharatanatyam.
The performance, ‘Bhavayami,’ will feature compositions by her Guru, Smt. Vidhya Subramanian, exploring the multifaceted expressions of Krishna through Bharatanatyam’s core elements: nritta, natya, and abhinaya.
