"Ananda Margam" in Sanskrit translates to the perfect bliss of dance. This one-hour long performance presented by Bharatanatyam artiste Sophia Salingaros celebrates a simple theme - happiness, and its multiple manifestations - through the traditional framework of Indian Classical dance. Sophia will present four choreographies created under the guidance of her Guru, Dr. Sreedhara Akkihebbalu.
Sophia Salingaros is a Bharatanatyam artiste residing in New York City and has studied the art form under Guru Dr. Sreedhara Akkihebbalu for the past 15 years. Additionally, Sophia has studied intensively under Smt. Rama Vaidyanathan and has performed in her international tours of ‘Vivartana’. She is an ICCR Empanelled Artist, Indian Raga Fellow, and 2013 YoungArts Finalist. Her training in Carnatic music further enhances her involvement and emotional connection with the art form.
Alongside being an artist, Sophia is a graduate of Columbia University and is currently pursuing her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College.
