Vidushi. Smt Sharika Koushik, a third-generation Bharatanatyam dancer from a renowned lineage, she is the granddaughter of Karnataka Kalashree the late Sri T. N. Somashekar, founder of Sri Umamaheshwara Nrutya Kalakshetra [1951], and the daughter of Bharatanatyam Vidushi Smt. Sreelakshmi Kumar. Surrounded by a rich cultural heritage, Sharika has nurtured her passion for dance from an early age, performing as young as 3 years old. With her dedication and artistry, she has performed over 200 performances across India including in International cultural festivals.
She is a proud recipient of the prestigious CCRT Scholarship, Doordarshan B Grade artist, and a state-level honor from Sangeeth Nruthya Academy. Sharika has trained with esteemed Gurus such as Sri B. Bhanumathi, Smt. Minal Prabhu, Sri. Shankar Kandaswamy and Nandini Eshwar and has expanded her expertise in Kathak and Manipuri. A passionate teacher, she integrates yoga principles into her dance instruction. Sharika’s journey reflects her unwavering devotion to the art form, and she continues to inspire future generations while carrying forward her family’s artistic legacy.
Nrutyāntaranga – The Inner Essence of Dance will take the audience on a profound journey into the soul of dance, where the performer and the divine unite. Beginning with a sacred Pushpanjali, it will flow through the emotive Navarasas, the harmony of the five elements, and the cosmic rhythms of Nataraja's tandava and lasya. The performance will culminate in the Antaranga Realization, where the dancer will transcend into oneness, leaving the audience with a sense of serenity and spiritual awakening.
