A soul – stirring concert of Urdu, Persian and Hindi poetry in music performed by exponents of the art form.
Karuna and Sanjeev, originate from Delhi and Lucknow respectively, trace the colours of sha'irs (master poets) of the great schools such as Delhi, Deccan, Lucknow & Lahore as well as Persian masters such as Hafez over seven centuries, from Amir Khusrau to the sha'irs of today, who have each added to the variety & beauty and given new dimensions to the ghazal.
Karuna and Sanjeev's, focus is on clear and deep expression of the poet's thought, conveyed through their musical compositions which has won them acclaim in academic as well as musical circles. Their unique quality of making classical Urdu and Farsi poetry accessible and enjoyable while retaining authenticity is well recognised.
Their more important performances have been : Westminster Central Hall; The Nehru Centre; Musée Guimet (Paris); Christies London; NPR (National Public Radio) Arizona and LA.
Their CD ‘Inspiration unfolding' includes ghazals from Khusrau, Ghalib, Faiz, Sijaj Aurangabadi, Akbab Hyderabadi & Siddiqua Shabnam.
They have been guided musically by Dr Leelavati Adsulé of the Gwalior gharana and in Urdu poetry by Dr Zia Shakeb, renowned urdu scholar, historian and art critic.
